> *" I know I'm no Picasso, but I didn't think it was that bad. "* this one felt way sadder than the first. it's less about a house and more about a broke , exhausted family in Enfield that nobody believes. the Hodgson kids , that damp wallpaper , the mother trying to hold it together while everyone thinks they're making it up for attention. and then Wan drops Lorraine's whole Valak storyline on top of it. which honestly is the part that got me. that opening in Amityville and then the painting in her study , it's not even a jumpscare , it's just there in the dark while she tries to sleep. way more effective than anything flying around the kitchen. Madison Wolfe as Janet is great. the interviews , the voice changing , the way she just looks completely it's too long , the Crooked Man feels like a trailer for another movie , and the ending is pure chaos. but that middle hour in the house is so strong , and the Warrens feel less like ghostbusters here and more like two people who are genuinely worried about this girl.
