Ms. Marvel
Ok I liked this one but oh my fucking god the dialogue actually made me want to turn it off, each character did not feel like a real person when they were speaking. No high-schooler speaks like this and I know this because I am a HS teacher LOL.
The visuals were stunning and thats kind of what saves this series for me, some really strong camera work here with really creative visual directions, I do however really fucking hate the way they did Kamalas powers, as a fan of Ms. Marvel (read her original run when it first came out and countless other things she has been in) they like truly lost the plot with it. Her powers are meant to express the awkwardness of being a teenager, but also that Kamala is extremely comfortable with herself and can be/look however she wants. I get why they changed the powers its a genuine problem making stretchy and gigantification powers but man the new idea they had for it just doesnt work for me. I liked that end credit (3/5 for that), it sets up for the Marvels movie but I am not looking forward to that at all.
Overall, Ms. Marvel lacks depth, smart dialogue, and overall good storytelling, which is exemplified by being a six episode TV series, had this been a movie I think it could have worked, but who knows. I think what saves this show form being absolutely bottom of the barrel is the great look at Pakistani and Muslim culture and the excellent visual storytelling.
Next up is Thor Love and Thunder, I reviewed this one earlier in the year and now with all I've seen I am truly stumped, not looking forward to this rewatch.
