Hideaki Anno captures a feeling you can’t put into words. The need to escape and the endless cycle of protecting yourself in a world you create. Anno shows these rituals aren’t illusions but ways to cope. It’s one of the most beautiful and painful films i’ve ever experienced. Every detail feels intentional, from the internal monologues and costume design to the production design and even the camcorder and stop-motion footage. It’s visually stunning in every frame.
