The Shining

A truly revolutionary film. The camerawork is top notch and has inspired films from all genres of cinema. The music and sound are eerily haunting and carry the movie at some points. Jack Nicolson was great but Shelly Duvall was the star here. The way she portrays fear and horror is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. It felt so intense and realistic that it was hard to watch in some scenes. The fact that she had to go through mental and physical abuse during the filming and barely get any recognition for how good her performance was is disgraceful. All the praise that Jack Nicolson got and still gets to this day, Shelly Duvall deserves times 100. Also the kid’s performance was incredible too, the boy was fucking 6 when they filmed! It also probably helped that Kubrick was able to film all his scenes without him knowing that it was a horror film, which is amazing.
