Platoon
This is one of, if not the greatest, war movies I've ever seen.
The constant fear of death, the pain of losing fellow soldiers, the conflicts within the platoon, and the emotional burden of taking lives. None of it is softened or romanticised, and I love that authenticity. Platoon is neither openly anti-war nor does it glorify combat; instead, it shows the human complexity and chaos of war with remarkable honesty. There are some genuinely disturbing scenes in this film (the whole village sequence), and I think they really do encapsulate the effect of war on man. Sgt. Barnes is one big psychological case study.
