Spring Breakers
I love nothing more than a 2010 film with random ass blonde girls as the main characters. I did NOT know Selena Gomez was in this film, what a jumpscare.
I actually love the camera work in this film, it has a really nice handheld feel which is so good for making the audience feel connected with the characters more, it feels like it's filmed on a phone in the best way possible. I think the robbery scene was a cool take rather than showing it from the girls' perspective and from the car was a really nice way to show it quickly and effectively.
I think the phonecall audio with the grandma compared the contrast in visuals is really powerful and really shows how a lot of girls her age have two separate lives when it comes to home life and friend life especially in terms of drinking and smoking culture
This film is acc killing me in the best way, the acting is genuinely so good, the main girls all make such convincing best friends and they acc make me miss my friends sm but I also think it shows power dynamics within relationships and how there is typically always one that is left out which would be Faith in this scenario and how she's the only one who can actually see the issues but majority rules.
Honestly, them being in court and jail in bikinis is iconic, where are the jail uniforms? Idgaf. Icons.
The whole scene with Alien and Faith is actually terrifying. Alien is so manipulative and it must've been terrifying for Faith being manipulated by both him and her friends, James Franco's acting is so good cuz genuinely he's so manipulative and the fact that this shit actually happens is a terrifying realisation.
I do love how there's a constant higher power no matter what character you think about, I also love the change in tone after Faith goes home because it really shows how one person in a group can keep the peace and how that power can affect people so negatively and how they can have guilt.
The gun scene was so uncomfortable. "Oh I just sucked both y'alls dicks." No. No you didn't.
This film does such a good job at showing how quickly friendships can be replaced by something that won't last long at all and it a spur of the moment. It really shows how friendships just fall apart in place of momentary happiness rather than permanent friendships.
I'm actually obsessed with films that start as one vibe and end with a completely different one cuz fym this started with a group of college friends going on spring break to three of them getting basically groomed and getting involved in gang crime 😭
I also love the motif of the gun progressively going from finger guns to water pistols to actual guns, it shows how quickly something can escalate to something out of everyone's control.
