Drive
"I don't sit in while you're running it down. I don't carry a gun. I drive."
This is a film that I grew my love for whenever I watched it. It's been a long time but it still appears fresh. This film has a particular vibe, that you will get for sure when you experience it. What makes this film perfect for me, is how it sets up the characters in the first half, and displays and resolves conflicts in the second one, the cinematography, the soundtrack, the acting, and definitely the subtle framing and symbolism in many of the shots lined up. There isn't much dialogue, but Gosling and Mulligan do such a great job in staring at each other that I don't really feel the need of dialogue. People want a much more faster paced action film and this wasn't because it takes its time to become beautifully violent and gory. Yes, the way this film uses silence and imagery combined with its shocking acts of violence, it becomes completely worth it. There is one scene which you might agree was the best in the film and it was the elevator scene. The way they share a passionate kiss before he exposes his real self stomping a guy dead and then the camera pans towards Mulligan's horrified face and his, half front and half flash on the scorpion on the behind of his jacket. To show that the scorpion had been awakened. Beautifully done. A guy who's a complete monster but is holding himself together throughout the whole runtime. He meets a person who helps him be better and when outside factors mess with that, he unleashes his anger. "A real human being, and a real hero" is just almost ironic. Leaves in the end not because of the dangerous people around him but because he's the most dangerous around her. I don't wanna say this but I cried at the ending when I first saw this film. And it gets better with each rewatch. The vibe of the 80s and all the lighting stuff. Seems like TheWeeknd's "Blinding Lights" but much more enlarged. I love this film and no one can convince me otherwise. Definitely worth a watch.
