La Notte
dare i say this might be my most favourite watch in italian films? the truth is, this is actually the first time i felt committed to watch a 2-hour long slow-burn film.
this film beautifully expresses the struggle and turmoil of marriage in which the husband had been intimate with other women. its even more powerful in the last scene, where lidia says she doesnt love him anymore, knowing she saw and knew about what the husband had done as from what i understand, she wasnt jealous but instead, she was disgusted, which beautifully conveys that the love has died.
it ends with her reading a letter the husband once wrote about her, explaining how he truly loved her, and the husband's response was.... "who wrote that?" my heart shattered to pieces.
regardless, the husband can go to hell.
