Lost Highway
Okay yeah this is possibly one of the most conflicting but yet amazing films I've seen to date. What I've come to realize as I've become more immersed in David Lynch's work is that interpretation is everything even whenever it's not always necessarily right. Fred, who we as the audience are set to believe is our main protaganist has a really interesting quote about this, "I like to remember things my own way. How I remembered them, not necessarily the way they happened." This quote also to me, once the end comes around really is a great summarization of a lot of these events that take place throughout the course of the film.
There's seriously an ominous feeling that's around the whole time throughout this thing, and it's really easy to get caught up in one aspect and believe something that it's not. But I am glad I let this one sit with me because initially my interpretation is not what it is now because yes lets state this obvious, by the end how everything wraps up this is really confusing and it's not doing you any favors to piece it all together either.
I believe Pete being Fred's representation of himself but who he wants to be and everything he isn't is so interesting, they can't be more opposite from each other but yet they're both the same. As talking about the characters I can't not bring up Robert Blake's character, just creepy, unsettling, and chilling, I mean his character doesn't even have a name but just dominates and leaves his mark each appearance here.
It's challenging as it doesn't follow traditional story routes, this movie wants you at times to believe something that's not and really does a great job at playing around that fact. Looking back now some of these plot points should've been right in my face but it's done in such a good job at making the viewer believe what they want compared to what it is actually going on and being portrayed.
