Eternity
Holy shit I really was rooting for myself liking this movie and the first act I liked it but didn't love it and from there on I was not only so suprised but kinda moved too by the story. And the multiple messages and thoughts it provokes. This movie basically is the upgrade of Materialists.
I would recommend reading this if you even were after seeing the movie.
The peformances were all on point but what else could you expect from Lizzie, Miles Teller, Da'vine Joy Randolph and Callum Turner. I mean I love all these actors so that makes it great. Da'vine in The Holdovers is still one of my favourite peformances of this decade and adding her role in OMITB that imo is the best in the whole show made me sure I just could never hate her in any role because she is so good and subtle. Lizzie is just such a amazing actress as well and I do think she'll win an Oscar someday. Miles Teller is amazing too but since I saw Whiplash I always knew I would give him the benefit of the doubt in any other project, he didn't need the benefit tho because he nailed it. I think if there something I've learned is too stop the next generation hate. I'm like this nostalgia guy when it comes to actors sometimes because I try to not like people like Josh O'connor, Zendaya and Callum Turner but OH BOY that man delivered. I mean now I'm 100% in for him as bond he has that gravitas. But hear me out, him as Steve Rogers would kinda be perfect. I mean he's got that voice and aura thats screames patriotic perfect righteous man. If that would happen I would kinda be open to the MCU reboot because I'm planning to let the MCU behind me after Secret Wars.
Like I said in the beginning it took me a while to love it but that's all thanks to the movie itself. The concept is great, I mean a woman who dies that has to choose for either her husband in the afterlife, for which she has been married for over 65 years with or her first husband that died in the Korean war 67 years ago. The dilemma itself is so interesting and I think the whole movie it got me switching from sides at one or two moments because the arguments, ethical reasonings and beautiful perspectives. And there is just one big thought that I still am amazed by how it actually might be so accurate.
Yes she never got to live a full life with Jake that's true. I mean the man is almost perfect a lover but not a husband. And yes that is the message most movies give that the real people you love are the ones your gonna argue with and etc and dont get me wrong the movie does portray that amazingly but it shines light on how deceiveful and painful young love is. it is the love without mortgages and problems and very strong young joyous love. there is ig solace in the fact that my dream partner is not gonna look like Hailee Steinfeld or is as playful romantic as Callum Turner is as Jake in this movie.
I'm at a age where love just entered my life and it is full of such strong feelings and thoughts and doubts. I mean because one can focus so much on love itself without any real life harsh problems the love you give and receive is so pure. And maybe not at my age of 15 where you kinda figure out shit how a relationship works or how you like to have a gf no I really mean when your 18,19,20 and you just have so much to give.
I mean you think you get it when the ''I never got live a life with her'' gets mentioned because it's true but Jake and Joan never knew KNEW eachother you know. And like it was portrayed amazingly in practise these two were not that great of a match. Jake realized young love made him blind because here it is I think; Memories make you remember the amazing stuff and glorify shit. He was kinda dissapointed at the end by her. And Larry would never.
They articulated the choice so well and the choice itself was a good choice. I mean it's like Materialist but where they actually use logical reasoning and visual payoff. It just all made sense whilebeing beautiful as well. I have maybe such a soft spot for romcoms because they give me hope and enormous amount of joy.
Watch it pls. just do.
