Interesting movie about a true story I knew nothing about. A really good directorial debut with some fun ideas and interesting shots. The out of order timeline meant to bring you in, confuses more than anything. It is a bit hard to keep what is what straight. I would even chalk it to being intentional if there wasn’t dates on the events. I think what really holds this movie back is Anna Kendrick wanting to be in her own movie. She casts herself as the main character in a story not really about her (Not in a gatsby way). The main character’s arc wasn’t very interesting or resolved. Still the core of what was here could’ve been really good and if Kendrick can take a backseat I think she could make some truly amazing things.

Movie with an interesting idea that doesn’t really work. It has some funny and sweet things but a lot of what it is going for is unearned. There isn’t enough time to get you invested in the cast and tell their stories and resolve their arcs in satisfying ways.
