RRR
My God, what a fantastic time this was.
I haven't seen many movies from India - Hindi, Telugu, anything. I believe the only one I've seen from beginning to end is 3 Idiots which I hated, far more than anyone else apparently. It was goofy, unfunny, annoying, and to top it off, THREE HOURS LONG. I didn't understand the love for that film and it unfortunately put a bad taste in my mouth when I so much as think about movies in a similar vein. However, I put RRR on my 2025 Goals list after the excitement and Oscar buzz surrounding it. I later saw some clips and thought it looked like a lot of fun. I've been pretty excited to check it out. I've been a little burnt out trying to cram all of these movies in since 2025 is coming to a close within a few days. That being said, I am happy to report that I haven't had this much fun watching a movie in a long time.
I adored watching RRR. It's oozing with so much love and passion I don't know how someone couldn't enjoy it. It meets all of the most important requirements that make a great film. Fantastic performances, engaging plot, perfectly-trimmed pacing (despite the 3+ hour runtime), banging music, smart dialogue, and a powerful message. AND, the absolute most important of any movie, it's oodles of fun. The entertainment comes in all sorts of forms - impressive dance moves, bonkers action, heartfelt romance, a powerful friendship, and a historical story that many Americans aren't going to be familiar with.
There are a few things that could be picked apart about RRR, but I truly do not care. Everything else is just so good that it overshadows the couple of flaws that are sprinkled throughout the film. That would be nitpicking in every sense of the word.
The fact that I can watch a movie that's over three hours long in the middle of the night after I was barely awake at 7pm and feel like I could run a mile afterwards should tell you all you need to know. India, I humbly apologize.
