I remember loving this movie when i was a kid this was so special to me

Boy oh boy was i on crack when i first reviewed this and called it a snoozer? Just mind boggling how this was made in 1968, the fact all this came out of one persons brain is simply astonishing. That opening scene with the apes might be the greatest opening for a film of all time

Farewell My Concubine is just an all out attack on all your emotions. The epic tale of the two Peking Opera performers goes through grief, tragedy, betrayal, addiction, and estranged love. This film is an absolute work of art. Leslie Chrung is just absolutely breathtaking in terms of his performance but also his looks too. Legitimately had he feeling some sort of way. The film is almost 3 hours long and stretches over 6 decades, and the all star display of direction is all over this film. Chen Kaige masters the use of lighting and framing, absorbing the viewer into the world of 20th century Beijing. The look of this film blew me away. That denunciation scene was one of the most well constructed scenes of all time. An absolute chain reaction of betrayal and heartbreak to save ones self in that scene all the while the fire engulfs the screen and their surroundings. The ending demonstrates Chengs love for the character of the Concubine, realising that after all these decades together, Xiaolou is just an ordinary man trapped in political turmoil, not the all powerful king he worships in the play. And again, Leslie Cheung is one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever seen. To the person who posted the movie in full in 4k with subtitles, I hope all goes well in your life. AN ABSOLUTE TOP TIER BIBLICAL FILM THAT BELONGS AT THE TOP OF THE LIST FOR GREATEST FILMS OF ALL TIME.
