Fargo
Fargo's simplistic Story allows its cast of eccentric characters to really shine. Steve Buscemi disappears into the role of this fed-up and money-hungry criminal. Frances McDormand equally fits her role as a kind and intelligent cop with a laid-back and simple life, if you look past all of the murder. Everyone else put in a good performance as well but those were the two standouts for me. The wide shots of a snowy landscape could be mistaken for beautiful paintings when shown on-screen. I think the relationship between Marge and Norm is the key to understanding the themes of this movie. This is only the 2nd Coen Brothers film I've seen but I'm recognizing a pattern in the type of story they like to tell. They seem to be fascinated with the idea of good and evil and the greed inherent in human nature. We all want what Marge and Norm have but realistically everyone is much more like Carl and Gaear or Jerry. At the end of the film, Marge is so astonished at why these events even needed to take place because she is at her core a good person. She could never understand why someone would go to such great lengths just for some money, and unfortunately, most of us could completely understand.
