13th

Watch this for my social science class and wow I am glad we chose this movie. 13th is a powerful and eye-opening documentary that reveals the deep issues within the U.S. criminal justice system. Ava DuVernay and her editing team put together historical footage, photos, and interviews that tell a compelling narrative. The documentary is both informative and emotional, showcasing the systemic racism that uses the 13th Amendment. However, the documentary's pacing did feel very inconsistent, leaving me taking in too much information quickly. But aside from this minor editing critique, 13th is an essential film that tells viewers to fight back against the evil exploration of prisoners that is brought to you by the Federal Government and cooperate lobbyism.
