Shutter Island
Alright, alright I got two things to say before I go into the review. 1. BEN KINGSLEY WAS THE MANDARIN, WTF IK I RECOGNIZED HIM 2. Screw my friend for being smart and theorizing the ending before I got to it, Ik the twist but never watched the whole thing so I thought this would surprise him. Alright back to the review.
WHAT A FUCKING MOVIE! I mean holy shit the trio of Ben, Leo, and Mark cooked with their acting here. Leo and Mark were great as US Marshals and the whole mystery aspect of this movie was really good. Ben was a great doctor and I had a hatred for him limiting the investigation which is a sign of a good actor. Mark Ruffalo is so good as a supporting actor and it's a shame I've only seen him as the Hulk and I want to change that image of him. Ofc Leo is the standout and once again proves why he is one of Scorses best actors.
The environment as a whole was one of the best I've seen in a film. The fact the film takes place entirely on Shutter Island is great and it feels like we the audience are trapped on it just like Mark and Leo. The score for this movie was nice and kept us in the thriller and mystery mood.
The twist ofc is the best part but I won't spoil it even if the film is over 10+ years old. I couldn't believe this is how the movie ends and it upsets me the movie will just end like this. The quote "Which would be worse - to live as a monster, or to die as a good man?" will always stick with me.
