Very surprised at how much I enjoyed this. I was kind of adamantly against this from the get-go, but it does actually feel like there was some love put into this. Mason Thames kind of kills it as Hiccup and I actually felt like he was talking to a real dragon at times. Still unsure about a live action sequel getting greenlit so soon, but I have faith it’ll be better than the last few live action Disney remakes we’ve gotten.

Top Gun: Maverick had this sort of magical synergy between everyone involved, specifically Cruise and Kosinski, that made it one of the most refreshing and entertaining blockbusters in the last like 10 years. F1 tries its hardest to recreate that, but Brad Pitt never really seems like he cares even half as much as Cruise. The races themselves were pretty well done and loud enough that I think I damaged my hearing, but everything surrounding it feels like just enough to get to the next race. That’s usually fine if it didn’t seem like they really wanted us to care about Sonny Hayes and his dynamic with Joshua, but every little kerfuffle is solved by the time the next race rolls around 5 minutes later. It sounds like I hated it, I really didn’t. The racing scenes were cool and the music was fun and I could feel my seat shaking the entire movie which is always a blast, but I was also very disappointed with the outcome after knowing what Kosinski is capable of.
