Such a gruesome watch, it’s no wonder Fulci shares the ‘godfather of gore’ nickname with Herschell Gordon Lewis! I mean this movie really holds no punches when it comes to gore. It was over the top in the best way possible! Even in the opening sequence when Schweick getting lashed by chains, leaving these deep gashes all over him and then having his skin get melted off by some corrosive substance. It’s an absolutely insane opening that sets the bar high for the rest of the movie, which it surpasses multiple times. Like the man getting his face devoured by those spiders. I would say that I’ve become more accustomed to gore over the past couple months but that made me squirm, especially when one pierces his eye. I hate spiders and eyes make me feel funny so I was wincing when that happened 😭

Not sure what I was expecting from this to be honest. A Bay of Blood is definitely a movie that I appreciate more than I enjoy I do like the way that all of the characters are introduced one by one, it doesn’t ever feel like the movie just dumps them all on you at once. But I did kinda struggle with grasping some of the links between them as they were a little convoluted. The same goes for the motives as well, although some were pretty simple, others did get lost on me. At certain points I did get some of the links and motives muddled up. Maybe it would make more sense upon rewatch though (I do understand that this could just be a me issue) On top of that the chain reaction that happened throughout was neat. Like you see a character kill someone, but then THAT killer then gets killed by someone else and it snowballs right up to the very end. Which by the way absolutely crazy ending, I don’t think I could’ve predicted that in a million years

I think I just witnessed peak. That holey mackerel jokes gotta be top one funniest thing ever I’m still chuckling over it now 😭
