Miller's Crossing
Surprising nobody, I love gangster and noir movies. So why wouldn’t I love a movie that puts gangster characters in a noir world? I definitely don’t think I picked up on everything during this watch of the movie, but I know enough to know that it’s one dense film that warrants at least one rewatch. Acting was absolutely phenomenal from all departments, especially Gabriel Byrne, which was only enhanced when framed by beautiful cinematography and composition that makes your head spin. Plot is great, and while I do hate love triangles, this film does it well. And it doesn’t make it the sole focus of the film, you get to see the gangster violence you signed up for. Soundtrack is amazing and sets the tone well, and I loved the choice of Danny Boy to score one hell of a fight scene. Humor is good as well, although I’m pretty sure half of the jokes flew right over my head. Just one hell of a film that people probably study in classes. Coen brothers, you did it again!
5/5: I’m not really sure Casper knows what ethics is…
