Persona
This is a really cool movie. I’ve only seen one other Bergman, but this one is just as awesome as the Seventh Seal. It’s a simple plot with a complicated execution, leaving you wondering what exactly Bergman’s trying to say with it. Before I get into my take on that, I’ve just got to rave about its beautiful components. Cinematography, shot composition, sound design, pacing, costuming, etc. is all phenomenal. Especially in the editing department, it knocks it out of the park for a film made in the late 50s. All of the film components, something that it seems acutely aware of itself, lend to its introspection on the conversation of art itself. An artist and their audience are in a symbiotic relationship that this film depicts wonderfully through its main characters. I’m sure there are much better explanations of this concept elsewhere, so I’ll leave it to the experts to unpack. All in all, it’s just a great meta film.
5/5: This film is Muholland Drive’s Drag mom
