Rashomon
If I’m being completely honest, I really only watched this movie because I’m recognized the poster from somewhere (still not sure where exactly). Man, I did not realize I was throwing myself into a dense forest without a machete. I love unreliable narrators, and this movie’s chock full of them. You watch the same event play out in different ways for 90 minutes as each character tries to convince the court (you) that their version is the true one. I don’t want to go into it more than that, because it’s really a fascinating film that should be watched blind. The cinematography is beautiful, there’s a shot of the woman in front of a stream that took my breath away. The story within a story within a story aspect gets really confusing in a fun way, like navigating a maze. I loved the writing and acting, each character drops at least one banger of a line (that line about the devil fleeing Rashomon because of the ferocity of man was crazy). Loved the sound design, the music is so fun during the beginning walking sequence of this movie. Acting is great, the bandit lowkey scared me with his diabolical laughing. Absolutely loved the ending, that caught me off guard. It’s all just great, highly recommend if you’re into cerebral movies.
5/5: Why are they all eating their microphones throughout the entire movie?
