I usually hate true stories in film/books. This, however, is an exception. It immediately sucks you in and keeps you there throughout the film as the characters uncover the true extent to which pedophilic priests exist worldwide. It’s a great movie, really, but god I don’t want to watch it ever again. The performances, cinematography (like when the church loomed over victims speaking out), writing, directing, sound design, it all just makes you feel sick. Maybe it’s because my brother always warned me about priests. Maybe it’s because I never went to one of the priests at my church for confession as a kid because of a gut feeling. Maybe it’s because I work with kids now, and I worry every day that this could be their reality. Either way, I can’t really explain the feeling I have right now. It left me speechless, because even though I knew this story for years, nothing can encapsulate the feeling I had watching the list of towns flash by while I waited to see my home.
5/5: I wish I had a joke for this one, but I don’t.
