Superman
Goddamn, this felt like going back in time. I was in the same theater I watched superhero movies growing up, drinking the same thing I always had, just a little bit older. I absolutely adore this movie, partially because it’s exactly what I wanted from a Superman movie and at no point does it try to be anything other than that. The immigrant aspect is refreshing and realistic. The conflict between Jarhanpur and Boravia, while somewhat sidelined, was a great way to showcase his ideals. The part that really stood out to me was Gunn’s take on family and identity. I’m not going to spoil it, but the conclusion of his choice had me sobbing. I fucking loved Krypto and everything he did. The acting is amazing as well, with the stacked cast including David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, and Rachel Brosnahan, all of which absolutely knocked it out of the park. I didn’t love the over reliance on CGI, but I suppose that’s simply par for the course for a superhero movie these days. But the cinematography was amazing, even when there was some monster in the background. There were multiple shots I just had to sit back and admire for a few moments. And again, loved the message that was woven into the fabric of the film. Because sometimes being a punk rocker means finding a reason to love everyday, not in spite of the world’s problems, but because of them. So to whomever may read this, even if we’ve never met, I love you.
