Plot - Character - Theme What’s the driving force of a film? What’s the perspective it creates? How does it function as a work of art? Here to have a good time and take a look at what makes a narrative “tick”. Rating Scale: 1 - don’t watch this movie it sucks 2 - Look… it’s a bad movie, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun. MST3K here we come! 3 - Worth a watch 4 - I’d recommend this - probably even rewatch it! 5 - I recommend this movie and it’s also a personal favorite.

Character Rambo does Taken — oof. This one makes me wish they quit at 4. Stallone is amazing, but the character of Rambo isn’t strong enough to carry a movie solely focused around his complex emotional state. Movie is choppy and too fast paced, feels like a Tony Scott film meets Pierre Morel but it doesn’t work. 3 separate montages of “prepping” was 2 too many. The violence was top notch as always, but the suspension of disbelief suffers when 1) you don’t need a passport or customs to travel between the US and Mexico, and 2) hospitals and police are apparently non-existent in Arizona

Plot Pure 80’s Action - and surprisingly better than First Blood part 2. Establishing the I’m “your worst nightmare” cliche! Incredible. The cinematography in this one was an impressive improvement. The lighting in the dungeons and caves was top-notch/Indiana Jones level, the blue sticks that turn blue was a great touch of palette cleansing in an otherwise “orange” colored movie, the vistas are NUTS and make the movie feel like a great epic. Some of the pacing/editing was a bit sloppy, and the actor playing the villain wasn’t very interesting. Also, not sure this movie has aged well considering our current relationship with Afghanistan, but it puts an interesting light on history.
