IKIRU is simply the most beautiful. The mise en scène in each shot is brilliant, and every frame is gorgeous and intentional. Close-ups on Takashi Shimura's face (his eyes!), as he reconciles with his impending fate is deeply moving and heartbreaking. I let out the deepest and longest sigh after that final scene, because ahhhhh it's just so, so good. I wanna just curl up and cry in the best way.
