Loki
This log is for my rewatch of Loki season one, as well as my first time watching Loki season two.
S1E1: 4 Stars - Glorious Purpose is a phenomenal introduction to a very wacky world, a very new direction for the MCU to have gone in. Tackles complicated ideas but welcomes the audience in, whilst setting the rest of the series up well.
S1E2: 4.5 Stars - The Variant has a clear character arc on show for Loki. It also stands out for good shots, for example one of Mobius and Loki going down on the lift, and one the one at the end in Roxxcart in harsh red lighting.
S1E3: 3.5 Stars - Lamentis has a weaker plot compared to other episodes but Loki and Sylvie’s interactions make up for it.
S1E4: 5 Stars - The Nexus Event is the best episode so far, Owen Wilson’s Mobius is a well layered and fleshed out character. It is great to see the TVA slowly piece together the fact they had lives beforehand, and the Loki’s working out the truth behind the scenes of the TVA. Brilliant episode, some of the best Marvel media, definitely the best post Endgame. Well earned post credit scene.
S1E5: 4.5 Stars - Journey Into Mystery is a great episode, it might not be better than the one before it, but it is certainly the most fun to watch. Seeing all the different Loki variants made this episode special, and the story continues to unravel at a good pace.
S1E6: 4.5 Stars - For All Time. Always is a good conclusion to a fantastic first series, it is just a shame the MCU didn’t do much with it outside of Loki. The opening with the Marvel Studios logo and important lines from the MCU and real life playing on top of Steve and Peggy’s song was a good touch. Biggest downside of this episode and the whole series is Ms. Minutes’ voice, it annoys me so much.
My Season One Average Episode Rating: 4.3 Stars
My overall rating 4.5 Stars
S2E1: 4 Stars - Ouroboros leaves the rest of the series ambiguous just like the start if the previous season, it is a good introduction to a character by the same name, I however dislike it when a problem is created just to be resolved. Still a good episode.
S2E2: 4 Stars - Breaking Brad continues to show the layered and deep chemistry between Loki and Mobius, it feels more reminiscent of the early parts of the first season.
S2E3: 3.5 Stars - 1893 drags on a bit, it is still good and has some very good moments, particularly The He Who Remains variant who is well written, Loki and Mobius are obviously great as per usual their chemistry is just fun to watch. However this is probably all round the weakest episode yet in my opinion, as it feels like the groups of characters are just playing glorified cat and mouse for most of it.
S2E4: 4 Stars - Heart Of The TVA grapples with more complex ideas, Bradley (or X5) chooses a life on the timeline and follows Renslayer, however we see even for a brief moment the difficulty of that choice to him.
Loki convincing Sylvie also makes for good moments throughout this episode.
S2E5: 3.5 Stars - Science/Fiction is so confusing, I think the writers lost the plot as the series went along, and by the end it just seems like they take pleasure it how little sense this show makes.
The idea of nobody remembering Loki because they belong to different timelines is predictable. The highlight of the episode is the short second of Mobius on a Jet Ski.
S2E6: 4.5 Stars - Glorious Purpose is a creative, inventive ending to the series, and ties up the loose ends, essentially making sense of the confusing episodes prior. It is well paced and written. Despite the amount of timelines and specific moments from the series that get revisited, it all falls into place and makes sense, somewhat like Avengers Endgame.
My Season Two Average Episode Rating: 3.9 Stars
My overall rating 4 Stars
