La Haine
I can't believe I would care about a movie that is focused on hate. But, these characters are still good in some ways, despite the fact they hate everything and everyone, they aren't good people yet I still get sad when Vinz gets shot. I thought Hubert would be the one to die since he's the only one with hopes of abandoning the ghetto... yet Vinz and Saïd are completely engulfed by it. Hubert's death (if happened with less ambiguity) would be cliche and make this story, a typical grab on your emotions. They set up a slow-burn thriller about three skin-heads cursing everyone out, Hubert, my favourite, is the most complex. While Saïd is the middleman, and Vinz is full out hate, which is probably why he's the main character. Vinz's death is very quick and catches you off guard. This movie is anything but a typical movie and is very easily in my top 10 as of now. Again, it's not too long, the movie was exact in everything it did.
