incredible film w/ an even more incredible performances by jacob tremblay and brie larson. this movie does an incredible job at telling a tragic story w/o being exploitative and grotesque. the movie knows it doesn’t have to be mindlessly explicit to get its point across w/ its dark themes. the scene of the escape was so full of tension and anxiety. the entire film is masterfully crafted through the lens of a child, and does so successfully. every single thing we see or hear is what Jack sees and hears. it had me tearing up at the end 🥲 and that SCORE??? 😍 doesn’t dive too deep into it, but it lightly touches the idea of the “perfect victim” that society craves as they dig at Ma’s parental choices as a captive mother. Very disturbing.
