Devi
introduction to satyajit ray finally. a gut wrenching one at that.
the scene where they first start worshipping doya is so wonderfully shot - the imposing and uncaring men against the scared "women and children" behind the windows bars.
deifying women, the objectification in the process while also glorifying motherhood in a human woman, all the while denying her autonomy and freewill. it's captured so well with FIL already referring to her as "maa," i assumed he already had his dream in the beginning of the film. the lines blur so easily and her descent to the "witch" status was inevitable.
its a clever movie that simply cares. I enjoyed it, all the decisions and consequences.
