Demolition
There’s something about this movie that makes me feel so connected to David. When he takes apart his life by first dismantling everything that seems broken or wrong and then soon starts demolishing what’s there. I think it’s David believing that destroying his past with his wife will make him feel something other than being numb. Allowing his friends son to shoot him, getting hurt in the foot with a 3 inch nail, and describing the pain as a “good” it’s something that he feels in that moment because he can ignore what he’s feeling constantly. In the end when he gets in his car and reads the sticky note his wife left for him you can see more memories flood in on how much love he never reciprocated and he realizes what he had was already broken when he finds out his wife had an affair with another man and aborted the child. In the end when everything comes back together he finally fixes the relationship with his father in law and his love for his wife. I really loved this movie and i think i’d watch it again, i loved David’s character and Jake Gyllenhaal is also one of my favorite actors. Amazing performance, pacing, and story definitely an all time favorite.
