Saltburn
I really liked this movie. Or rather, I really liked the first 90 minutes of the movie. The last 40 minutes felt like when a writer doesn't know how to conclude an essay and they do what every teacher tells them not to do, which is to introduce new ideas. That is to say, the first 2/3+ of the film had a clear intention of showcasing the dangers of obsession, but the last third spiraled into retconning (Oliver just wanting Saltburn this whole time?) which weakened the majority of the film. The film would've been 5 stars for me if it ended with the grave-fucking scene; it felt like such a disorienting (and not in an effective way) shift to have Oliver's motivation now be to own Saltburn and not to have and consume Felix by any means possible which is what his motivation evidently was for the majority of the film. In short, it is far more believable that Oliver would slurp Felix's filthy bath water and fuck his grave than it is for him to have this grand scheme to own Saltburn.
