Resurrection
I'm not exaggerating when I say that this movie felt like uncovering a family tree. Resurrection is a metacinematic experience like nothing else. It opens with an homage to silent films and delves into an anthological storytelling, tackling all 5 senses of the human kind.
This film not only explores cinema, as a craft, but also touches on the viewer's perspective of watching a movie, it openly dialogues with its audience. Therefore, that makes Ressurection a movie within a movie, talking about movies.
Watching Ressurection, in theater reminded me how important it is to experience a movie in theater. I’ll never stop saying it, but viewing a movie with the cinema's atmosphere adds so much to a it and is far more immersive than experiencing it at home.
I honestly don't know how to properly put my emotions into words, but I feel like Resurrection could've been the first movie ever made as well as the last. Either way, it would still leave us with this nostalgic feeling as soon as the credits roll. And it would still convey this powerful message about cinema, that it shall never die but always resurrect.
