I love you because I love you.
For the first time, I'm taking my time to write a lengthy review and not an attention seeking one liner, because this movie, fucking beautiful, made me think of how performative everything is these days. Celine Song take the romcom genre and fucking cooks up a Michelin star dish. It's awkward, realistic, and critical but yet so simple. Halfway through the movie, I was thinking "Men ☕" was the perfect thing to write for this movie but it deserves more than that. I NEVER shed a tear for a romcom in my life, but me and the guy near me (a buff motorcyclist type of guy) wept like babies. We follow Dakota's character (incredibly acted) through the hardships of love and of her New York bougie job and can't help but laugh at her critics she gives of it. The part that absolutely hit hard was when one of her clients, Sophie (💗) gets assaulted by Mark, a liar, criminal, stalker, and also one of Lucy's clients. Lucy was absolutely devastated, opening her eyes to the absolute SCAM that is her job. Just like the audience, realising that this isn't a typical romcom. Before entering the room, I had NO idea the masterful Celine Song was behind this movie, so I had my prejudices and thought I was about to watch a shitty love triangle flick. BUT I WAS WRONG obviously.
