Sinners

Beautiful music and many long one takes. This movie is the perfect encapsulation of humanity. Preacherboy chooses his own humanity over a life of immortality. He rejects following the safe path of his father and chooses his own salvation and freedom through music. Michael B Jordan did an amazing job portraying two completely separate characters with their own stories and motivations. The most beautiful part to me, however, is the apparent need for community. Hailee Steinfelds character was thrown out by her own people in order to keep her safe. She needs to find peace within a community that will accept her. The movie depicts the vampires not solely as blood thirsty monsters but as a community looking to extend their reach. This is further reinforced in the post credit scene where Stack reminisces on his final day with his brother showing the glimmer of humanity they still have. Overall, it was a perfect movie in my mind.
