Dark

Fascinating counterpoint to Dying of the Light. The movie the producers cobbled together from Schrader's footage was surprisingly incendiary and somewhat incoherent, but this director's re-edit of the re-edit ramps both of those qualities up to 11. If this is truly close to the cut he submitted to them it's no mystery why the film was taken away from him and I'd pay good money to see the producers' panicked faces when the credits rolled and the total un-marketability of the movie hit them. Neither Dying of the Light nor Dark quite feel like finished films, but as competing takes on the same source material they work well in tandem. Dark is more formally interesting and adventurous, but is probably difficult to grasp or appreciate without the more detailed narrative provided in Dying of the Light.
