A hard movie to condense into words, because there's so much life here, Edward Yang's superpower is being able to capture something so quietly captivating, you can't help but be engrossed by the issues, complications and complexities that arise from this family's daily live, from new loves to old ones, life and death, school and business. I love movies about life, and this might be the most wonderful, impactful portrait of life I've ever seen. Edit: Also noteworthy how perfect of an opening scene this has, sweet enough to put a smile on your face, with just a bit of sourness at the end to remind us reality and interpersonal relations are tricky.

It's a pretty funny satire that I don't think in the end actually has that much going for it, with a central drama that is fairly uninteresting. It did make me laugh, it is a compelling satire, just don't think it is particular a great movie.

Fun fun
