A good movie? For children?? In this decade??? I can’t believe I put off seeing this so long. It’s great. Goes to show what’s possible in the world of animation. There’s a morbid quality to the story; the cat sculptures you see at the beginning invoke Pompeii, setting the scene for an all-consuming disaster. It comes back with the sinking statue and the ruined city, implying there are no humans to be found out here. Very interesting and sweet. That giant beached whale at the end had me in awe.
