On rewatch, specifically on a TV screen instead of a full theater, this movie really fell short to me. The narrative feels half baked, almost like it is the second movie in a series, and there is no real reason why that is outside of poor writing. The aesthetic is undeniably cool though.  55

Totally not what I was expecting going in. I thought this was going to be a GoodFellas, The Godfather, type movie, the classic Scorsese-De Niro gangster flick. Instead it was 90 minutes of arthouse weirdo-core drama capped with an artistically beautiful albeit violent ending. The score was incredible, like genuinely incredible, the color grading and camera choices were good even for Scorsese, and De Niro is as incredible as he usually is. Totally totally loved it, would revisit regularly.  91

I couldn’t tell you why anything in this movie happened, or exactly how, but it looked pretty cool I guess. Not amazing, just an action movie. 56
