Cure
Saw this a week ago and holy shit, man. I went in expecting a police procedural with some psychological or philosophical undertones, but what I got was basically the inverse. It’s hard to pinpoint when it stops being a procedural and becomes something completely different, but the more I think about it, the more it feels like that was the point all along.
Somewhere along the way, it turns into pure horror. Not the jumpscare kind, but the quiet kind that creeps in and stays even after you’re done. The atmosphere, the pacing, the style, all of it builds this sense of something ancient and wrong. Watching it at 2 a.m. was a terrible idea. I was scared out of my mind and then stuck awake just thinking about it. The ideas in this movie don’t leave you alone. They linger because, even though it’s abstract and elemental, its idea of the malevolence in humans is a real one. It grounds you and reminds you that there is no cure for the darkness within us, and maybe there never was any control to begin with.
