Ran
A terrific and horrific story of a father and his three sons challenging each other with their abuse of power and greed. Kurosawa’s use of no sound during the battle in the castle made it feel peaceful in a disturbing manner and I could appreciate more the devastating truth behind the violence and the reasons to which the brothers had to destroy their family legacy with blind authority they are simply afraid and intimated by each other and their father is simply exhausted.
Just seeing the arrows fly past and the bullets penetrating the armour of the samurai like termites drilling a wall. Kurosawa’s brilliant directing and ideas of battle portrays the greed and violence of which the brothers feel the need to use to escape their own fear of losing control.
One of the most aesthetically pleasing films I’ve watched, the editing, the color, the cinematography a Kurosawa masterpiece 5/5.
