Fish Tank
I wasn't expecting to like this movie so much, but THAT much.
I thought, how could a movie with such a meh synopsis and such a horrible poster be ranked so high? So…
I was afraid it would be another typical "Lady Bird" film depicting teenage girlhood: my problem with films of this theme is that they usually tend to become cliché and shallow. I can tolerate Lady Bird, but I didn't want to see another “Moxie” movie.
When I say this, I'm not talking about the feelings experienced by a teenage girl being shallow; in fact, I think it's one of the most complex phases of life, and when you say that a 15-year-old girl has experiences and thoughts that a middle-aged man would never have, I want to see that on screen!!!
And “Fish Tank” is exactly that and so much more, it's such a real and honest capture. Andrea Arnold truly takes us on a journey into such a rich atmosphere that it immerses us in Mia's story in a fierce way; every camera movement, every sound, every light and color is so carefully thought out, what impeccable direction!
By capturing Mia's immaturity so maturely, the storytelling keeps us glued to the screen until a climax that sends shivers down your spine. It's one of those cases where what could be unusual is so well integrated (like the pee scene) that it becomes so real and makes the character so real.
THANK YOU ANDREA ARNOLD!!!
