Nerve
I am kind of angry that i have never watched this before now. Because i love dave franco, and because HOLY fucking shit... this movie is a fucking underrated masterpiece, like I really can't see what could possibly make people think this is bad.
I don't remember the last time I was this fucking engaged and tense while watching a movie. This is 100% something that could happen in the real world if someone really wanted to make it, because a lot of people would probably join in and watch
Visually, this movie is fucking beautiful... and I feel like that should be very obvious from the poster. While sure it could have been more composed, more aesthetic, but would that really fit, the movie, because I don't really think so, I think it works really well because it is rough.
And what a cast... like this cast is so weirdly random and perfect and stacked all at once. This has to be my favorite Emma Roberts movie. And holy shit, Dave Franco is sooo hot🥵. And, why was MGK so fucking perfect for that role??? And why was he so fucking good? I need more of him in roles like that.
The acting was phenomenal... like not a single time did I think "Oh that doesn't feel like something a person in their teens would say or do" because everything is totally something teenagers would do.
I honestly couldn't tell you what plot holes people talk about, because I think the problem is the people who watch, and not the movie; they believe something so deeply they don't even consider other opportunities. Like, are people talking about the human psychology not thinking this would be possible, or is it that people feel the end came out of nowhere (Because I didn't see it coming, but it still surprised me and had me engaged and energised) But i might also have just been so engaged in the movie that i didn't see the plot holes, or maybe i just don't care enough to ruin a good experience to ponder over minor plot holes. Like I know, I could never be a critic, because I simply love movies too much. I couldn't hate a movie (other than The Godfather) because if I can sit down and watch it from start to finish without feeling bored or pondering over something a single time, then they did one hell of a fine job in my book. And I have ADHD, so making my brain shut up is not an easy task.
While writing this, I have been listening back to the soundtrack because I don't think I have ever been so far away that i didn't even notice the score. But just listening back to it, I don't know how I didn't think about it because it sounds fucking amazing, I guess it just perfectly integrated itself into the movie and made the movie that much more.
At last, I have a little rant about what this movie talks about and how it reflects the real world:
One movie that I was really reminded of was Mainstream (2021), which is also just a banger... but I really think these 2 movies are so important to watch because we are living in a world trapping people in shit situations you can't really get out of. I think the closest thing we have to this is OnlyFans... Like the people who get into it, start off with the small payments, and can still leave without any real damage to their reputation, but the further you go in, the bigger you go, the bigger the numbers the more you get stuck until you have made enough money that you get to do what ever the fuck you want and have a huge fucking following on all socials. But the big difference between this and OnlyFans is that instead of selling sex, you are selling safe adrenaline to other people, while you are actually doing the dangerous and criminal shit. And I think it is super scary that this world is very possible because there are these daredevils in the world who climb huge mountains without a single harness or anything, so we have the people who would play, and well, the watchers will obviously also happen. Like, sure, I don't think the majority would agree to murder, but people would end up dying as a result of crazy stunts.
And just because I was reminded of another movie doesn't mean this wasn't original, because fuck, this was seriously original, unless you start zooming into smaller aspects of the movie, then it starts to become really obvious what movies they took huge inspiration from, but they never stole anything, they altered stuff really tastefully.
