Obsession follows the story of Bear, a husk of a man who barely feels comfortable inside his own body from the 0th second. At best he is awkward in an sympathetic way and at some level you empathise with him but from the moment he understands the gravity of what he has done, what I want to call his anti-arc starts to unravel to the point where I wanted him dead more than anything by the end. I don’t think my hatred for Bear wasn’t intended on the movie’s part but he is so unchanging that even in his pivotal final moment where he knows what needs to be done he’s too much of a coward to go through with it, only actually dying because the demon possessed him before he could vomit the pills. If I were to summarise Obsession it is the story about a cowardly rapist in denial who is responsible for ruining his life and those of everyone around him. His inability to change or face the consequences of his actions cause a whirlwind of death and misery. He could have called the cops. He could have called the fucking cops fifty thousand times. I’d almost call it a plot hole but man knowing the insufferable piece of shit that he is he probably considers it but doesn’t do it because that would require a modicum of accountability the man baby clearly lacks. There are not enough words in the English lexicon to describe my hatred for Bear. I hate him almost as much as the demonic being he summoned to puppeteer Niki’s body adores him. What a despicable thing he is. I genuinely wonder what any good anyone finds in this man. He is such a void of charisma. Fuck. Anyways I liked it 😃👍

Whole house mad A series of crazy events happening and people reacting with various levels of nonchalantless to them. Needy and Jennifer are the only real characters that aren’t just wacky caricatures. I mean they’re still caricatures but in a different more complete sense. Who tf flexes a 2003 Chrysler Sebring though. I don’t have anything to base this off of other than it’s better than the last film I watched. Its weird but I was bemused so it’s the good kind of weird. It got a couple of chuckles out of me. You probably gotta watch this when you’re tired or high it only improves the experience. Also whose really the needy one here cause goddamn Jennifer ✌️😭

A very 80s movie premise in a very 80s setting. Or at least I think that’s how the 80s are supposed to be idk, back then was like…the past, or something. A lot of the lines in this movie have a very cheesy quality about them. The “mom and dad are fighting again” line is a highlight bro shit was like that meme with the crying fox furry. People here are genuinely fucking stupid the whole neighbourhood lowkey deserves what happened to them. The only people I feel bad about is their chud neighbour who I lowkey understand (TOTAL SUBURBANITE DEATH), and my goat Starbucks who despite being named after a coffee chain saved the day and was lowkey the smartest being in the entire movie. I was genuinely wishing for someone to say “he’s right behind me isn’t he” cause mf he’s right FUCKING behind you this happens THREE TIMES like bro. Also kinda crazy that a shotgun couldn’t stop that trex or whatever but a hammer would knock it out for a min. How. Respect to the dad for dying that was aura. What wasn’t aura was the time warp shit was a little lame but oh well. Weird how all her neighbours believed her tf did she say. Aubrey and Janette lowkey got more romantic tension than that bum ass dude did which is hilarious. Now that I think about it what happened to the version of the wife and daughter that stayed in the house? They didn’t just teleport right? They’re still there. They’re the only ones left in that dinosaur land and they don’t even know nobody is looking for them because a facsimile of them from the past (future?) got transported to the present. That’s kinda dark. Overall this is okay. I liked the premise, set design was cool. Dialogue was ass. Should have probably watched Jennifer’s body instead.

When you create a show like digital circus with the implication that you want to treat your audience with respect and maturity it makes the already daunting task of concluding everything in a satisfying way that much more challenging, and what's more, if you've written yourself into a corner just as much as Gooseworx has, it becomes nigh impossible to come up with something that will satisfy everyone, With all that being said, this was subpar at best. It's like all the worst aspects of this show combined into one last hurrah. Therapyspeak dialogue that's way too on the nose, too much focus on Jax, jarring mood changes, poor pacing in general. I mentioned Jax but, even he doesn't have a satisfying ending, he literally kills himself OFF SCREEN! That's the most perplexing part to me, he's supposed to be a main character at this point but the most important thing to have happen to a character isn't addressed until after the fact. What was even the point if you're gonna show Pomni going after him anyway, if you want to give him a redemption arc, just give him that! There are parts of this that seemed decent, I appreciated some parts where they at least tried to some symbolism instead of expositioning everything like Pomni inside (???) Abstracted Jax or parts of Caine's scene where he doesn't talk cause it instantly ruins the mood they were probably going for there. I don't doubt that Gooseworx is a creative writer, she was able to create several characters that people, myself included, love and enjoy and can empathize with, even though she clearly likes some more than others, and I wish she was better at suppressing her biases for the sake of the story. Some people want to create conspiracy theories that the story wasn't written ahead of time as Gooseworx claims but I don't think that's the case. I just think this show desperately needed more writers. As for me, I didn't hate it, if for no other reason than the fact that I got to see this wacky cast of characters for one last time, even if it was in far from ideal circumstances.
