Wanted to love this film and at times I did, the last 30 minutes is pretty spectacular as far as the filmmaking and visuals go. However, the whole thing is just a bit boring, no real plot that you don’t know from the title. The whole leaving your wife and kids to chase aliens bit being about pursuing your dreams no matter the cost isn’t explored in any meaningful lengths which doesn’t land well.

Loved the look and sound of the film, went a bit flat around the middle but then the final act was very good. Those speeches were horrible to watch. Funnier than I was expecting as well.

Just a fantastic film in a fantastic series. To be 3 hours long but not have one scene feel drawn out or not necessary takes some doing. A true epic. The Battle of Helms Deep and the Destruction of Isengard are enthralling but there’s so many smaller emotional moments throughout which make the film complete.

“What did we learn” “I don’t know sir”  Odd film but kind of enjoyable once it’s finished. Probably better on a rewatch and in the knowledge that everyone’s an idiot and there’s no meaning behind anything that happens. Funny at times I guess.
