Parasite
Bong Joon-ho’s parasite is near universally loved, and for good reason. It tells a seemingly simple story of a poor family willing to go to any lengths to escape their current situation by infiltrating a wealthy financial and taking up jobs within the family home. Differences in class and wealth are most clearly signified by height within a city; similar to Akira Kurosawa‘s ‘high and low’. The tone of class drama and black comedy is flipped on its head by an ambitious and completely unexpected plot/genre twist. As an audience you are left speechless and unsure which characters you truly rooted for; this a near perfect film, ambitious, poignant, and visually spectacular.
