Eraserhead
Had to give this one another watch. Not my favorite Lynch movie, but wanted to see this both to memorialize the man and to see if I could learn something sonically from the film. It’s a very strange and anxious movie with such puzzling parts that never feel slapped together, but incredibly intentional with no fat on the bone. This exists in a hellscape, a nightmare, how I imagine Russia to be. It’s such a strange place, and the things that people think and worry about are done in silence behind a veil that is the generation of the 50s. The sounds are so interesting and intense, and there are no silent parts of the movie. All wind and static and the baby crying and the radiator. So many sounds that add so much depth and texture to this already grimy atmosphere. I’d always be down for a rewatch for this one, and the movie feels shorter at every watch.
