Before Sunrise
“If there's any kind of magic in this world it must be in the attempt of understanding someone sharing something. I know, it's almost impossible to succeed but who cares really? The answer must be in the attempt.”
The first time I watched this film, I wrote a little essay about its immortality. No film has ever made me do that, nor will it ever.
I’m just deeply fascinated by how even the simplest of dialogues in this movie are impregnated with an odd touch of magic, one that bewitches you forever and makes you feel like you are finally being given the chance to speak your heart out, and that is, for me, the most powerful of magics ever.
Because to speak from your soul and have others listen to your symphony of thoughts is to live forever, and this film invites you to do that; to make of your life a symphony that will be remembered for the ages. This symphony, though, does not have to have a strict order, and that is precisely what makes it more significant.
Life does not have a specific meaning, to make it have one would be extremely cruel and inhumane. Before Sunrise understands that. It understands that one’s symphony must not be limited; it must be sincere, whether that sincerity is smart or not, because after all, it is yours.
That’s why I want to make of this film a treasure, because it reminds me that there are no wrong notes, only people too afraid to play them; and I don't want to be afraid anymore. I want to make use of this film’s magic and forge one of my own.
