Impressive debut from Nolan, even with a tight budget of like six bands he still manages to make an intriguing storyline that’s carefully crafted and well executed. Throughout this I noticed the earliest stages of his fixation with nonlinear storytelling, and narratively mixing up the story to make the viewer question reality. Nolans direction within each scene feels like you’re peering into another life, uncomfortably watching. He drags this tension throughout the film, jumping between time and crime blended into a degenerate main character who has nothing else better to do. It’s no where near his best, and rather, sits at the bottom of my all time Nolan rankings. Yet, I will definitely say it’s worth the watch to recognize his origins, and how it’s affected his current works.
