Godzilla
The sound of Godzilla's roar and rampage is the soundtrack of our mutually assured destruction. The moments of silence evoke a primal crocodilian terror, but the score and the sound design made me feel as if I am facing an impending doomsday produced by the benign wrath of nature. Through this film, one can understand how small human history and civilization appear when compared to nature's scale of creation and destruction. At the same time, one can understand how humans mirror nature's appetite for creation and destruction expressed through a hunger to control and dominate nature through technology.
The desire to kill Godzilla with cunning new technology is the same desire to end the Second World War through nuclear weaponry. But Godzilla's "incredible power of survival" is derived from Japan's perseverance amidst unthinkable nuclear warfare.
"Godzilla was baptized in the fire of the H-bomb and survived. What could kill it now? Right now, our priority should be to study its incredible power of survival."
