I love Movies as for me they’re the pinecal/perfection of Art, so in my reviews I’m not really going too deep into the technical aspects. I tend to analyse there emotional, poetic or philosophical questions and how cinematography plays along them. + a lot of my 5 stars are Not on the same level as others but I just couldn’t dare to rate them any lower… so 5 stars for me does not automatically mean 10/10 But if you’re interested in my favorite movies feel free to check out my top 100 list, that keeps updating as I watch new movies. :)

Im impressed with Nolan. I will forever say that Nolan is overrated but if he manages to do another movie like the Odyssey I might not be able to do so anymore. I think it’s needless to say that this is an visual masterpiece. I had the chance to watch it, not on analog 70 mm IMAX, but at least on an digital screen with the same aspect ratio. But what really impressed me was how he was able to take the core theme of Xenia and Nostos, Homers Odyssey is famous for, and mix it with his own interpretation of the decline of civilization and critic of war found in Homers work. I did not think that Nolan would able to relate the fundamental message to modern struggles, without losing the soul and idea of the Odyssey. Regarding the costume design and characters like Agamemnon. I did think that I could’ve been a bit more fitting of the time, but the Odyssey is, was and will always be a fictional story. To the people in Ancient Greek, who read it for the first time, the Trojan war and all its myths where nothing more than legends of which no one was sure if they were real or how the world looked back then. And so I don’t think that there is a need for any critic regarding the amour or weapons used in the Trojan war. What is to be criticized is some of the clothing and the language being completely modern instead of at least a more formal way, as I think that creates an atmosphere more fitting for the time. Moreover there where a few „weird scenes“ for example „ the collapses of our Bronze age“ or Agamemnon being an aura farmer. But in a fictional hero Epos I’m Willing to look past stuff like that. I did mention the collapse of the Bronze Age, so I’ll have to talk about the sea people. Other then what the typical online opinion seems to be I think Nolan has done something remarkable with the sea people. By giving this faction of sorts, responsibility for the collapse of society Nolan introduces an invisible antagonist. And by then revealing Odysseus and his men, our protagonist and the placeholder for humanity, as the sea people. Nolan can change the meaning of this story to one in which humanity is its own enemy. A way more fitting solution for our time if you ask me. In the end this movie made me feel something, it looked phenomenal and did an great attempt at reinventing Homers ideals to fit our time.

You’re so cool

Not once has a movie depicted guilt in such a way. Sensational evertime I watch lost highway I feel lost and high all the way.
